Ecolodges in the Loire area

Sustainable tourism in Touraine in wooden lodges in the heart of the forest

The starting point is the forest. As if it were obvious. 300 hectares of protected estate, home to an entire precious ecosystem of fauna and flora. It is a world in itself. One that lives, unfolds and blossoms — and in which we are merely passing guests. Privileged observers of this microcosm. For Loire Valley Lodges, Anne-Caroline and Bertrand Frey could not have wished for anything other than embracing a responsible and sustainable tourism approach. Everything has been designed to have no negative impact on the surrounding nature. The forest can continue to thrive freely.

Ecolodges designed to blend into nature

The wooden lodges, perched several metres above the ground, blend seamlessly among the trees: majestic oaks, imposing chestnut trees and vigorous Douglas firs. Here, the concept sits between a luxury hotel and a cabin in the trees, embodying an eco-accommodation philosophy that fully respects the forest environment. Nothing has been left to chance. The choice of water treatment systems, waste sorting and composting practices, the selection of local partners, artisans and producers, and even the decision not to equip the ecolodges with air conditioning — relying instead on the forest’s natural ventilation — are all examples of how deeply committed Loire Valley Lodges is to an ecotourism approach in Touraine. Right down to the skincare products, which are eco-responsible and eco-certified. Right down to the dishes served in the estate’s two restaurants and in the breakfast baskets. Products sourced in part from TheFarm, a market gardening area located near the Duporterie forest, where organic, thoughtful and seasonal farming is practised. A holistic approach that makes these ecolodges in the Loire region a benchmark for sustainable tourism.
