“Light, osmosis with the forest, transparency, space” inspired the design of our 18 lodges. Built on stilts, from wood species present in the surrounding forest – douglas, chestnut, oak – our lodges are real, warm and cosy suites. Their large windows and open terraces, equipped with a private spa, promote an harmonious dialogue between the interiors and the forest. And for the final touch, each lodge has been designed by a contemporary artist.

Walk or not

Walking is the best way to get around and explore our forest and the woods that surround it (the W.H.O recommends 10,000 steps a day to be healthier!). However, electric carts are provided for ease of travel, in case of necessity or a momentary lack of energy… here everything is allowed.

Interview

Tom Goodwing

Artist

Tell us what motivated you to join this project, how did you draw inspiration from the space and the nature around it ?

I didn’t hesitate to invest myself into a lodge creation when Anne-Caroline offers me to do it. Even though I am not a plastic artist I have always considered that my creations (songs, texts) were only a pretext to artistic collaboration. I always wanted to nourish my work from external universes, to confront it to another sensibility and sight. It was obvious to me to expand my universe to a preexisting space. I had the chance to visit Loire Valley Lodges throughout its opening in June 2020, I was caught by the lodges’ esthetic strength. It isn’t only a place where one can relax but a real carnal experience. Through the outstanding and seamless window bay, our entire body is diving into the forestry landscape. We find a kind of original calmness which is, up to me, the state of mind that an artist seeks to reach to express its creativity and imagination. When I was facing this for the first time I already that it was the ideal place for inspiration. I wanted everyone to feel this inspiration, especially those who are not looking for it. In every song I wrote for Kosmos there is this main idea that imagination is here to save us from a reality that became too much rational. I wanted my lodge to be a place where people could express their own artistic fiber in a fully free way. Above the environment, which is very inspiring, I wanted to create a timeless cocoon where we are pushed to live in a fictional relationship with reality. Welcomed by a mysterious but soothing voice, we are invited to get rid of our bells and stretch the sail. Then the landscape establish itself, or rather it doesn’t impose anything except its beauty and silence. We can see an engraved inscription on the wall. “Sculpt your cabin towards somewhere else.”. A newspaper on the door mentions a legendary Captain in a somewhere else that is close to us. Unusual items lead us to daydreams. A poem is engraved in a wooden panel. This Kabine seems to be a museum to this Captain. But has-he only existed? In this lodge, you are the artist. The piece of art is the landscape or rather what you are going to do with it. The Kosmos which you are going to draw the outlines. You are the Captain. Imagination is your vessel. This lodge is its Kabine.

How did you choose the piece of arts you wanted to put in the lodge?

With Anne-Caroline we were looking to furnish the Kabine with a 70’s “retro futurist” esthetic. Once more, it was a matter of improving the intemporal aspect of the place. Neither in the past nor in the future, we have the feeling to be in the middle of nowhere between reality and fiction. About the Kaptain’s items, I hunted them to personalized them at the image of the famous K. With the help of my friend Lola we engraved a poem and request towards somewhere else thank to a soldering iron.
